Sparrowhawk

 This Sparrowhawk was photographed at Stocker Lock, Rickmondsworth.

I was on the canal bridge when the bird appeared, flew across taking a small

bird at the bird feeder. It disappeared before reappearing down on the canal towpath.

Mallards

These duck were resting on the banks of my local mill stream, the Frays river.

Little owl

 The Kensington Gardens Little owl was happy to sit in mid June sunshine.

The Tawny owls that I saw earlier in the year were being very elusive.

Young Kestrels

These young birds were spotted enjoying the evening sunshine near Yeading Brook. 

They appeared to be part of a clutch of five and had not strayed far from the nest.

Blue tits

 Blue tits nested in my sparrow terrace this year for the first time.

It was good to watch the comings and going of the adults as they were busy feeding their chicks.

Unfortunately I did not see the fledging, so I don't know how many chicks there were.

Kensington Gardens January 2014

The Tawny owls are preparing to breed and this adult male is sitting at the

entrance to the nest hole. The female is at work down inside preparing a nest.

The size range of birds in the gardens is quite large, from

the Coal tit above, to the Ring necked parakeet below.

Jackdaw

This smart glossy fellow came to see if anything was for him as I ate

my lunch in Kew Gardens. He was lucky, how could I resist!

Woodpigion

This fellow popped in to wash the town dust off his feathers.

Young Heron

This young Heron was enjoying the summer weather at Long Water, Kensington Gardens.

Starling

What a fine glossy specimen this is!

Juvenile Blackbird

Young birds show that they are members of the Thrush (Turdidae) family.

Sand martins

These Sand martins have an exclusive address. The Grand Bridge, Blenheim Palace.

RSPB Sandy

The Lodge, Head office of the RSPB. Very nice surrounding for a workplace.

Even the Phesant enjoyed the late showing of Bluebells at the end of May.

Our first star bird of the day was this Raven, one of the family that had nested and hatched

three young in the area around the hillfort, on Gallery Hill.

The late spring sunshine brought the butterflies out, here a Speckled wood....

...... and a Small copper.

There was lots of activity in front of the Meadow hide. 

A cock Pheasant was courting these two hens.

The pool was very popular with many birds, this Great Spotted woodpecker enjoyed the water....

..... and the peanut feeder.

Nice to see this Nuthatch, a dainty little bird.

Feral pigeons

These two dropped in for a wash and brush up.

Robin

This cheeky little fellow gets everywhere in my garden.

London Parks Owls 2013

The Kensington Gardens owls where slow to show themselves this year,

but with the long cold winter this year, who can blame them.

Above is one of the proud Tawny owl parents.

This inquisitive ball of down is one of the chicks.

This Grey heron enjoying a paddle in Long Water, looked very fine in the rare winter sunshine.
